Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a fascination with Turkey. There’s something about this country that speaks directly to my soul—its rich history, vibrant culture, and the warmth of its people. Over the years, this fascination has blossomed into a deep love. I’ve traveled to Turkey many times, discovered hidden gems and each trip has left an imprint on my heart.

From the moment I arrive, I’m enchanted. The scent of freshly baked simit, the echo of the call to prayer drifting through ancient city streets, the intricate patterns of handwoven carpets, and the sparkling blue of the Mediterranean Sea—it’s all intoxicating.

Turkey is a land of contrasts: bustling bazaars and peaceful seaside villages, ornate mosques and quiet olive groves. I adore the food—the rich spices, the mezze spreads, the flaky pastries, and the endless cups of Turkish tea. The architecture fascinates me, from the domes of Istanbul to the stone houses nestled into coastal cliffs.

While most travelers are drawn to the magnetic pull of Istanbul, or the sun-drenched beaches of Antalya and Alanya, my heart belongs to a quieter place—Ayvalık.

Ayvalık is a little fishing village on the Aegean Sea that feels like a well-kept secret. With its cobblestone streets, ivy-covered buildings, and seaside dotted with colorful fishing boats, it offers an authenticity that’s hard to find. Time slows down here. Locals linger in street cafés, sharing stories over strong coffee. The sunsets paint the sky in soft pinks and golds, and the scent of grilled seafood wafts from family-owned taverns.

It’s in Ayvalık that I feel the essence of the Turkey I fell in love with—the Turkey of layered history, lived-in beauty, and quiet charm. Every visit feels like coming home.
